Sonja on Religion.....
"Oh, give
me something to believe. So many down on their knees. It baffles me, baffles
me." - LBC
I get yelled at, lectured, tripped with guilt, and threatened on a daily
basis. And from who? Believe it or not: Christians. Some of the most
"devout", "caring", and "honorable" people in
the world are yelling, lecturing, and threatening. Nice, eh? Yes, I think so
too. I don't want to stereotype, because I know this is not true of all
Christians. I do not hate them. My mom is one. My dad is one. Some of my good
friends are. I might even be one, but right now, I really don't care to label
myself that. I see "Christians" contradicting themselves in every
way, all the time. Promiscuous Sex, drugs, and profanity are all wrong according to the Bible,
right? Well then what's up with this hypocrisy? We've also got kids who call
themselves devout Christians, and spend their time eating away at people who
aren't.
I find something wrong with this, considering that Jesus actually said not to
flaunt your religion. I am just finding so many people who are hypocritical,
yet still find the time to bash me and what I believe in. Want to know what I
believe? Here ya go:
1. I believe that
everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe.
2. I believe that one's beliefs should be treated respectfully by others, even
if they may not agree with them.
3. I believe that everyone has the right to question God, question the
universe, question each other.
4. I believe that everyone has worth and dignity, and that no matter what one
believes in they are still a human being who deserves respect.
5. I believe that no one person has the right to tell another person where
they are going after they die, because that is a matter of opinion. To do this
is to judge, and is judging a right of ours? (well that's a matter of opinion,
too)
6. I believe that there are many religions in the world, all of which deserve
respect and homage. I don't believe that one religion should claim to be the
superior one. There are Buddhist monks who never speak a word. Who is to say
that they are going to hell?
That is all I can
think of right now. This has been a weight on my mind and still is. I am in a
questioning period of my life right now, and i'm not sure exactly what I
believe. But I think that is great...because it means that I am
thinking. I am not being spoon-fed ideas and information like a robot, i'm
thinking for myself, and i'm trying to understand myself. You may not agree
with me. You may think that I am a mixed up girl who is going nowhere. This
isn't true. I won't stay mixed up forever, because i'm thinking. Are you? Or
were you programmed to say that anyone who isn't religious needs to "find
god". I may not be religious, but i'm spiritual. And even if I do stay
mixed up forever, that's me. And I think that i'm great.
