Piece
Of My Mind for Jewel.
My
place of work wants me to take out my piercing. They haven't confronted me
about it yet, but I know they will soon, at least according to my boss
(department) at my place of work they will. They will say that they have a
"piercing policy" which is bullshit.
I've
been at Jewel for 3 years. I tried to quit once, but they talked me out of it
and sent me to a better department, floral. I liked the department and the
people a lot. They didn't care when I pierced my eyebrow,
or got my monroe.
Months past, and of course.....no one said anything to me about the metal in
my face. Suddenly, kids in other departments of the store started
getting piercings and such, and now I am going to be confronted about a
so-called "piercing policy".
I
don't look rediculous, just like I didn't look stupid when I walked in their
door 3 years ago with bright pink hair. They new I was a weirdo from
the get-go.....but they still hired me and didn't say a damned thing. I never
read anything about a piercing policy, I was never told anything about it when
I was hired, either. I understand that policies can change, but this is
rediculous.
The
Resolution...<revolution>
If
they make me take it out or fire me (which won't happen, because I am a
respected employee and they don't wanna lose me) I will quit. Why? Because
i'm not going to compromise who i am.....my
art, or what I see as art, for an 8$ job. They say they are
equal-opportunity employers, they hire disabled people, etc. Well, it's all an
act. If too many disabled people start working at Jewel, will they make a
policy against that, too? Someday piercings will be normal, and we will all
look back on this and laugh.
